'Happy' New Year...
So, it's a new year
and resolutions are being made (with some swiftly being broken) everywhere!...
I've loved having a
few weeks off, really switching off and relaxing, drinking a few (too many!!)
cocktails. And having time to reflect and think about the year ahead…
One resolution that
I'm going to make (and stick to!!) is to make sure I'm happy at work. (Oh, and
to lose a stone of course!!) Anyone who knows me, knows I'm generally a very
happy person, but I'm always striving to be better and do more…
Being happy at work
will obviously mean different things to everyone, it could mean being clear on
how you set yourself up to succeed in your current job, getting a promotion or
moving jobs altogether…
Are you really happy
with your job? - if you love what you do you'll get energy from it, which will
then have a positive impact on your home life… and if you're then in a place
where you're happy at work and at home then you're set up for a good year ahead.
Whatever it means to
you, here are some hints, tips and questions to help you succeed this year…
spend some time really thinking about the answers to these questions…
What genuinely makes
you happy?
Where do you want
your career to take you?
How can you make a
bigger impact in your current role?
What are your short term goals, for your long term development? Now turn those goals into plans...
What are your short term goals, for your long term development? Now turn those goals into plans...
Look at a role that
really appeals to you, write down all of the key words and characteristics of
the role, now group those words into 3 buckets.
- I do It now
- It's a small stretch for me to do
- It's a big leap
Then look at rewriting your CV using some of these key words.
A good friend of mine gave me this idea of looking at the key words and I highly recommend spending the time to do it...
Don't forget, if you decide to look for a new job, don't just think about whether you can do the job or what you personally can bring to the role, also think about what you would get from the role... Is it really the right role for you?
I
think the key thing when either looking for your next role or making sure you
succeed in your current role is to do whatever suits you... Be fussy! And think
if you'd regret not going for it…
